For an effective implementation of the 1.5°C target agreed in Paris, a societal transformation is indispensable. This can only succeed if all stakeholders pull together and every individual in society is prepared to make his or her contribution. Extensive communication and education measures are needed to create awareness and willingness to act in society. Climate change communication has a new and central position as an interface between society and science. A transdisciplinary, Austria-wide network can help to build and strengthen this interface and thereby significantly increase the social impact of climate research.
The aim of the working group is therefore the long-term networking of actors in Austria who are active in the field of climate change communication in research and practice. Thus, the WG takes up the basic ideas and objectives of the CCCA networking project "C4-Austria - Connecting Climate Change Communicators in Austria" and can deepen and institutionalize them. Within the framework of
C4Austria, important first steps have already been developed, which can now be taken up, further developed and implemented by the WG.
Through a networking workshop in October 2016 in Vienna and the implementation of an as-is analysis, which provides an overview of existing challenges and potentials of climate communication in Austria, important cornerstones for further activities of the working group were laid. The necessary objectives of the WG were developed together with the participants in the networking workshop.
