Since 2018, following the example of Swedish Greta Thunberg, pupils, students and other (young) people worldwide have been demonstrating for climate protection and demanding a bold environmental protection policy in line with the 1.5°C target of the Paris Climate Agreement. This movement is also active in large parts of Austria as Fridays for Future Austria. Inspired by an initiative in Belgium, a group of German scientists formed to support the content of the FFF demonstrators. Without institutional leadership, the Scientists For Future movement was organized as a grassroots initiative. The movement grew very quickly and expanded rapidly to Austria and Switzerland.
The CCCA served as the central point of contact in the beginning. Through the regional group formations in the individual federal states, the contact persons have been the regional group leaders since the beginning of 2020. However, the activities have to be initiated and carried out by the scientists themselves. S4F is a bottom-up movement: Scientists who want to do something meaningful in connection with the climate crisis or the SDGs and are looking for an "established" platform to do so can make use of S4F. However, as many people as possible should know about it and possibly be able to copy it in their field - that is why we ask you to send your activities to the regional group leaders so that they can be posted on the S4F HP.
