Working Group on Climate Walks

The goal of the working group (AG) is to establish Climate Walks as an inter- and transdisciplinary format and to build a community of practice in order to develop scientifically and socially robust climate protection and climate adaptation solutions more quickly and effectively. The format is based on the method of walking, which makes local contexts tangible, raises awareness for sensory perceptions, and promotes low-threshold exchange, mutual learning, and collaboration among diverse participants.

The working group synthesizes existing experiences with the format, its prerequisites, and its impacts, derived from excursions, city tours, etc. Additionally, the group conducts its own science-based Climate Walks, gaining further practical experience and generating new system and transformation knowledge. As its first product, the working group is creating a Climate Walk handbook on various climate topics, aimed at different target groups and contexts in science and practice.

Planned Activities:

  • Development and implementation of Climate Walks as a transdisciplinary format
  • Synthesis of existing experiences and creation of a handbook for science and practice
  • Preparation of a scientific/peer-reviewed paper
  • Establishment of a community of practice with an online exchange platform
