Press reports COIN APCC

The interdisciplinary project COIN (Cost of Inaction – Assessing Costs of Climate Change for Austria) evaluates the economic effects of climate change for Austria. For this purpose, scenarios are used to analyze the possible effects of climate change in combination with socio-economic developments in the twelve key sectors, both within and across sectors. Scenarios are plausible alternative future situations whose analysis makes it possible to estimate the bandwidth between negative and positive effects and to identify critical constellations.

The damage in Austria alone, which can be reliably assessed, will accordingly increase from currently around EUR 1 billion per year to around EUR 5 billion (range EUR 3.7 to 8.8 billion) by the middle of the century. In addition, extreme events and those that are not monetarily quantified effects occur.
