Many actors and initiatives are involved in climate change research internationally. In addition to the European Commission's framework programs, there are also globally active funding initiatives such as the Belmont Forum, EIT Climate KIC or Future Earth, which are highly relevant, especially in the area of agenda setting, and with which content exchange and cooperation is essential.
At European level, exchange and cooperation with other initiatives such as the European Climate Resilience Alliance (ECRA), the Climate Europe Festival or the European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA Conference) is very relevant in order to ensure coherence within Europe. Last but not least, the European Green Deal, the associated climate law and planned developments such as the European Panel on Climate Change (EPCC) are being closely monitored in order to be able to react appropriately and set priorities in this area.
International Network of Boundary Organizations on Adaptation (INBOA)
The term “boundary organization” was first introduced over 20 years ago to describe the specific organizational efforts to mediate between the science and policy communities. The international network aims to bridge the gap between those with scientific and technical expertise in climate change and those who make decisions about adaptation plans, policies and programs. Member organizations share scientific knowledge about climate change impacts, vulnerabilities and adaptation options and the development of adaptation strategies and practices.
The foundation of the INBOA network is based on the exchange between the CCCA and FUTURS-ACT (a CCCA-like organization in France) and subsequently the integration of the Canadian organization “OURANOS”. The joint ideas led to a global view of the network organizations and how synergies and joint learning can be promoted. The big launch will take place at COP29 in Baku.
The focus is currently on expanding the network, especially in the global South. Funding is also being screened to enable a physical exchange between the partner organizations.

EIT Climate-KIC
EIT Climate-KIC is Europe's leading institution for climate innovation, supporting cities, regions, countries and industries to achieve their climate goals through system innovation and location-based transformation.
More information about EIT Climate KIC can be found here.
Belmont Forum
Founded in 2009, the Belmont Forum is a partnership of funding organizations, international science councils and regional consortia committed to advancing international transdisciplinary science. Together, they aim to provide knowledge to understand mitigation and adaptation to global environmental change.
Since its establishment, the Forum has successfully implemented 22 Collaborative Research Actions (CRAs), supporting 181 projects and more than 1000 scientists and stakeholders from over 90 countries. Topics addressed by the CRAs include food security and land use change, climate prediction and interregional linkages, and biodiversity and ecosystem services.
More information on the Belmont Forum can be found here.
Future Earth
Future Earth is a global network of scientists, researchers and pioneers working together for a more sustainable planet. Future Earth is a strategic partner of the Belmont Forum and has the mission to plan and co-design joint research programs.
You can find more information about Future Earth here.
UN Climate Change Conference (COP)
The CCCA is listed as a UNFCCC Observer, which is why we are able to enable experts to participate in the UN Climate Conference every year.
